What is your work position and how long have you been working at Ometz?

I am the Director of Strategic Initiatives at Ometz, and I have been working here for 20.5 years.

Can you describe Ometz Career Services?

Ometz Career Services provide career assessments and coaching in order to help clients make informed career decisions. We see career changers as well as students either at the end of secondary education or after graduating from University. Together, with the counselor; investigating school programs and the Montreal job market are important steps in this process.

What can clients expect?

By working with a career counselor, clients feel more equipped to make important career and educational decisions.

Career assessments help individuals understand their strengths, their preferred working styles, and ultimately helps them see their potential. It helps clarify personal interest in a broad range of occupations, work activities, leisure activities, and school subjects. It is also used to help people understand their work interests and to illustrate the kinds of work in which they might be most satisfied.

How will Ometz Career Services evolve in the future?

The role of career counseling is becoming a much more significant resource, as the emphasis on preparing students for career decision making and planning becomes more of a focus. Students are overwhelmed by the flurry of education programs in Montreal and the pressure to make early decisions. “Love what you do” is the new mantra and that is not always an easy thing to know or to plan for. Ometz career professionals are well versed in job market information, as we maintain close ties with the business and employment community.

There is increasing evidence in the research literature that career development is a lifelong process that begins during childhood. Ometz is currently exploring avenues to work with schools in ensuring that our children can benefit from some early career exploration programs.
