Dear Friend,

We hope you have been enjoying a lovely summer. As the world continues to inch its way back to what we hope will be normalcy, for many of us, it has been a time to reconnect with friends and loved ones. With the Jewish New Year around the corner, we wanted to take this opportunity to connect with you—our Ometz family.

Shining a light on what matters most

If these past few months have taught us anything, it’s that it takes a village. That was made especially clear this summer, as we completed our 4th Annual A Chance to Shine No Show event. After taking a hiatus last year due to the pandemic, we were delighted by the outcome of this year’s campaign. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we surpassed our fundraising goal by a wonderfully inspiring margin!

Thank you for providing our at-risk youth and young adults a chance to shine. They are our future.

After all, safeguarding the wellbeing of the vulnerable has always been, and always will be, a hallmark of Ometz and our community. Funders, donors, volunteers, board members and staff—our village, if you will—all play unique but equally invaluable roles in sustaining this vital ecosystem.

Charting our future—together

In addition to the exciting recent launches of two new Ometz initiatives—L’Annexe and Clinique entourfamille—the coming year will also see the implementation of our three-year strategic plan, in which we will honour our past and chart an exciting new course for our future. The plan is an intentional, rigorous, and ambitious roadmap outlining key objectives, actions and measurements. The outcome of a lengthy, disciplined process ably led by our Vice President, Jeffrey Berkowitz, we believe that it will go a long way in continuing our vision of building a vibrant, growing community where people care for themselves and for each other.

But we cannot do it alone, and will rely on your continued engagement.

Thank you to outgoing President, Michael Aronovici

Our recent Annual General Meeting on June 22nd marked a change in lay leadership at Ometz, with Michael Aronovici completing a productive two-year term as our President—during which we saw the naming of a new CEO, the launch of L’Annexe and Clinique entourfamille, and the successful completion of our strategic plan.

Michael has shown, in his many years of service to Ometz, and particularly in these last two years as President of our board, that he consistently goes above the call of duty—especially significant during this challenging time. He embodies what it means to have courage, strength and resilience—and what it takes to build a caring community. On behalf of us all, our profound thanks to you, Michael!

A heartfelt thank you as well to Ruthy Bensimon Choueke, Yvonne Bensimon and Saul Carliner, all dedicated, outgoing directors on our board. Thank you for your important leadership, voices and commitment to Ometz and our community. And welcome to new board members Micol Haimson, Bonnie Lester and Gilbert Tordjman—we are thrilled to have you join us.

L’Annexe is virtual and in-person

L’Annexe, our newly launched centre for youth and young adults, opened its doors for in-person activity back in July and staff have been meeting individually with clients. This summer, they also organized a cooking workshop for LGBTQ+ young adults and their allies, and have many more initiatives planned for the fall, including the launch of new employment skills training and internships for young adults on the spectrum and with other neurodiverse challenges, as well as welcoming a new youth leadership team.

We encourage you to visit L’Annexe’s website to learn more about the many services offered. And please share!
