How well do you communicate?

By Sharon Bishin, Corporate & Employability Trainer

I always liked this quote by Robert McCloskey:

“know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.”

It speaks to the challenges we all have in listening, communicating and feeling understood, both at home and in the workplace. Since our focus here at Ometz is in strengthening employability skills, we spend a good deal of time delivering workshops that explore the best way to articulate your unique qualities as a job seeker and how to increase your efficacy as a team member. However, we also provide workshops anticipating the skills you will need once you are back in the workplace. Improving our communication skills is – and should be – an ongoing process. It is also multi-dimensional, because we could be looking at face-to-face exchanges, emails, social media options, interview situations, CVs and more. We’ve recently presented beginners and intermediate level courses in Blogging and looked at how New Managers could strengthen their skills in motivating a team.

Next up we are highlighting another two strong ways to communicate:

  • Do you want to know how to be a more effective communicator at work? Are you able to present the message and the persona that you want to in your daily exchanges? Would it benefit you to be clearer and more in command of what you want to say? Then check out our November 13th “Mastering Communication at Work” workshop: http://bit.ly/14G3Kfz
  • Also in November we are delighted to offer you some time to listen to – and question – a master social media operator… Pinny Gniwisch when he speaks on: “Using Social Media to promote your business”. How did he push his online jewelry business sales to $100 million? Ask him!: http://bit.ly/15kHmqm

Each of these presentations addresses the need to bring clarity to what your message is and how to deliver your individual intention in a compelling fashion. Let us help you do just that.
