Dig Deep Not Wide
By Lori Rubinger, Director, Training and Special Projects
For many out there, I suspect that you may also be experiencing some of what I am talking about.
Now that I am making a concerted effort to be active on Social Media, I find that I am becoming overloaded with loads of available information and resources. The more I learn, the more I want to learn, and this is truthfully resulting in major information overload. There are not enough hours in the day to follow all the subjects and the newly acquired networks I have amassed.
I happen to mention this to a smart colleague, and she suggested that I choose two or three main subjects that are important to me. “Go deep instead of wide” ! She advised.
Well, the advice I received makes great sense, although I do have to say, it is difficult to choose only a few. Here are the results of what I have discovered, by choosing only a few topics to follow on Social Media;
• You can be rich in knowledge on a certain topic(s)
• You can build meaningful networks and have time to nurture them
• You can develop an expertise that you can add to a Resume or professional team/group
• You can share your expertise ( train the trainer)
• You can bring value to your brand
Think about the following and please do share:
1. How have you benefited from your on line presence?
2. Do you have an on line presence? Why not?
3. Do you buy in that social media has disrupted the traditional job search?
