is a division  of Ometz, an integrated agency offering immigration, employment and social services to the Montreal Jewish Community. Ometz was formed by the merger of JIAS Montreal, Jewish Family Services and Jewish Employment Montreal in 2008.  As a founding member of Ometz, JIAS Montreal brings its 85 year history of helping hundreds of thousands of Jewish immigrants navigate the immigration process and establish new lives in Canada. We estimate that at least 80 per cent of all Jewish immigrants and refugees arriving in Montreal relied on JIAS for services of one kind or another. Our Immigration Department offers affordable services to facilitate the legal entry of Jewish individuals and their families into Canada. We offer information on immigration procedures, evaluation of profiles for permanent-residency status, assistance in completing immigration forms, and mediation with government agencies, if needed. We work to assist families who wish to bring their relatives to Quebec, and we support refugee claimants who wish to stay here.

Our highly trained team of Settlement Counsellors works with clients during their first three years in Quebec. Our counsellors assist new arrivals with their immediate concrete needs while providing short and long-term orientation (housing, schools, employment), crisis intervention, planning for French and/or English language skills acquisition, and information on other services, including referrals to other community groups and government agencies. We act as cultural brokers by playing a key role in the newcomers’ cultural transition process.

Our Integration Service offers programs available to clients during their first five years in Canada. We provide opportunities to gain the knowledge, skills and resources needed to succeed.  Programs include language training, information and orientation sessions on various aspects of life in Montreal and cultural and educational outings. One of the most popular programs matches newcomers with local families, giving newcomers the opportunity to make new friends and develop a greater sense of belonging to their new community.
